New workshop for September

The workshop entitled “From Literature to Cinema and Back” is taught by a renowned Israeli writer. It is offered in the fall and because it is only taught during the month of September (September 8-October 8) it has 0.5 credit. Students will be required to watch Israeli films based on a written text and produce papers analyzing them. The course counts towards the Certificate in Israel and Jewish Studies. Here is the description from Wesmap.

Bike Safety Memo from Public Safety

On behalf of the Office of Public Safety I would like to welcome you to the Wesleyan community. We are looking forward to your arrival on campus!

College campuses across the country are generally safe places for students attending them and our campus is no different. In many instances though this leads to a relaxed attitude toward personal safety and security measures and students tend to let their guard down. A majority of the crimes that occur on campus are crimes of opportunity. One area we typically see this is in bicycle thefts. Bicycle thefts have become a growing problem on college campuses and Wesleyan is no exception. If you are bringing a bike to campus please keep the following tips in mind:

-Always secure your bike with a heavy duty U lock. Cable locks are easily cut.
-Use indoor bike racks when possible as opposed to outdoor racks.
-Secure the bike by locking the front tire and frame to the rack. While not foolproof this will discourage someone looking for a quick steal.
-Use a cable lock in addition to a U lock to further thwart the theft of your bike.
– Register your bike on campus so your serial number is recorded.

We encourage you to visit our website at www.wesleyan.edu/publicsafety to register your bike before you get to campus. Our site also contains helpful information about our office and important crime prevention tips. Always remember, “Lock It or Lose It”.
See you soon!

New Psychology Courses

Dear ’19,
I hope the pre-registration process went well. As we look toward Adjustment, please note the message below from the Psychology Department:

The Psychology Department has added several new courses for the fall (listed below). They are all in WesMaps. To ensure that they would not completely fill over the summer, the courses were indicated to be by permission-of-instructor (POI) but most simply require the stated prerequisites (typically PSYC 105) for admission, assuming seats are available. If you are interested in one of these courses, you should make an enrollment request as soon as it is possible to do so, and plan to attend the first class (or let the professor know if you cannot attend).
